Working with Craig has been both inspirational and productive. I find him inspirational because of his passion for the work and his commitment to my personal progress. The progress -- and the productivity -- has taken the form of specific, concrete plans to address specific, concrete challenges in my professional practice as marketing and strategy consultant. Before working with Craig, there were a number of areas where I felt I had a clear sense of challenges in dealing with specific clients, but only a fuzzy idea of how to work through them. In working with Craig, I realized the problem was a little deeper than that: I really did not have the clarity I thought I had, and -- interestingly -- the challenges were not necessarily as deep or as large as I thought they were at the outset. As we worked through each specific situation, I realized I was making assumptions -- about the challenges and apparent barriers -- that were, in fact, only assumptions. By relaxing those assumptions, I gained greater flexibliity in working thorught the challenges, and -- with my newly found ability to look at them and see for myself -- the solutions appeared feasible, and even natural to implement. Out of this process, the largest shift came as I began to see myself, first, as the source of the apparent challenge, and then, as the source of the solution. Looking back, it seems as though I developed new skills and new ways of dealing with those challenges. At the same time, I do recall how large and intractible those challenges seemed at the outset. For me, the largest payoff came in terms of dealing with key clients: the case of the 'difficult team' of high-producing real estate brokers, the case of the 'unavailable executive,' who was trying to develop three lines of business for her Fortune 100 corporation without sufficient staffing or resources. In the latter case, Craig put it brilliantly and succinctly: 'It sounds like a client I had who was spending too much time being an employee, so he didn't have enough time to be the CEO.' Viewed from the right perspective, the challenges became tractible and manageable. While I was trying to provide that clear-sighted perspective for my clients, Craig was helping me get that for myself. "Quite frankly, I didn't think I needed any help. I've always done just about everything myself, so I figured, sink or swim, it's all up to me. Before I met Craig, I was trying to go in many directions at once, sometimes getting a lot done, and other times hardly anything accomplished. Often, I didn't know how I was going to accomplish my goals, and thought it was going to take forever to do so. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted my career to look like in 3 years, but no definitive plan laid out on how to get there. At times I lacked clarity, focus, and confidence. I actually feel that - for the first time - I have no doubts whatsoever that I'm moving in the right direction. And I always have doubts, but this time I know! My purpose has been revealed - it feels so right for me. Now, it's easier for me to tell whether a job is going to work for me, because it has to be in line with my personal values. No wonder I've never had any satisfaction - I saw my personal values as a secondary thing. I'm in one now, and I know why it doesn't fit. I'm much more likely to make a good decision the next time around. I really didn't think that the coaching experience was going to turn into excavation of obstacles, personal demons and limitations, and also jewels. Thought it would be much more matter of fact - more a doing issue than a being issue. The way I used to be was incredibly self-limiting. I really didn't realize how much I was cutting off my own expression. It's really something to start examining that. My new way of being is a lot more compassionate - I didn't expect to say that about myself - I still have plenty of stuff to clean up. But it doesn't come from how stupid I am and how foolish I am, the way it used to. Powerful, purposeful, clear, joyous. I thought power was forcefulness or assertiveness - it's really when I can take my passion and direct it to achieve results. I have had the pleasure of developing a working relationship with Craig Jennings. He has become more than a business coach; he has become a life mentor to me. The value of his life experience and wisdom in his approach to common sense business development helped me to overcome self doubt. He has helped me in more ways than he knows, he has helped me be able to self evaluate and build on my strengths and not be crippled by my weaknesses but work on making change in those areas.
